Honda announces new dual clutch transmission bike

Honda used the platform of the New York Cycle World International Motorcycle Show to announce to bike insurance customers that its sculpted VFR1200F sport-touring motorcycle would feature an optional dual clutch transmission.

The technology is becoming commonplace in cars but this is the first time it has been used on a bike, Wired reports.

Jon Seidel of American Honda Motor Co told the magazine: "With the dual clutch in manual mode, it is literally milliseconds. As quickly as you can use the paddle shifters, the gear engages.

"As this is the world's first application of this technology on a motorcycle the initial response has been extremely positive."

Mr Seidel added that he does not expect the technology to replace manuals but said that it works and adds fun and excitement to biking.

Honda, a Japanese automobile and motorcycle company, is the world's largest manufacturer of motorcycles and internal combustion engines.
